Left me wanting more!
I downloaded the first look but didn't get a chance to read it right away, but when I finally got the chance, I was hooked. I love the Appalachian Gothic sort of genre, as I'm a big fan of the Old Gods of Appalachia podcast and I'm always on the look out for similar content. This book seems to be more YA focused, but it still had some delightful mystery that kept me reading. The main character definitely had something dark happen to her a year ago, and now I'm craving to find out what happened last summer!
Though the sisterly based drama of the family-run restaurant was a little annoying at first, I found that it was a good way to establish their personalities and set the scene for how the family works. But I relished the home-remedy and slightly witchy way in which the grandmother (and whole family) base their side business. I enjoyed reading more about how the family has long aided those in the community, even when many look down upon them for their "backward" ways. I will certainly be purchasing this book when it comes out!
