This story combines the realistic interactions of four sisters all just one-year apart in age. First-person narration from younger sister Linden establishes that there are realistic family issues. Sister Rowan is in trouble for having a large snake tattoo, while Sorrel seems slightly changed as the only female member of the family who has gone to college. Grandma seems the most superstitious, and yet the girls know that they have witnessed miraculous healings with Gran's potions. However, the James family is busy serving delicious Southern style comfort-type food in their Harvest Moon diner, and the story is definitely a lot more than everyday business issues or teen crushes on a local golden boy named Cole Spencer. Something is going on when Linden is in close proximity to Cole, and the negative tension seems palpable. The reader soon learns there's a strange character named the Moth-Winged Man and people go missing in this Appalachian area. This is a story both enchanting and mysterious. It seems like a YA winner!!
