Utterly Compelling

This book and its characters are going to stick with me for a very long time. This story was utterly compelling, and I found myself thinking about it constantly while I wasn't reading it. I am still thinking about it now.

Historical fiction used to be my bread and butter, but for whatever reason, I have veered away from it. If this is what I've been missing, then I need to get back into this genre immediately.

I will say I really loved the format of this book. It was divided into three parts and along the bottom of the page the current year was in dark, bold font. It made it so easy to keep track of the timeline since there were time gaps between each part and usually a span of time during each part.

I also loved the multiple perspectives (I believe there were eight total). They really added to the multi-layered complexity of all the different relationships.

I felt so much childhood nostalgia, heartache, heartbreak, bittersweetness and yearning throughout this book. It was quite heart-wrenching, but I loved it. I literally could not get enough of the characters. I could have just kept reading about them.
