Beatrix is sent as an eleven year old girl to America during World War 2. Upset about being sent away, she adjusts to her foster family’s affluent way of life and eventually grows close. When Beatrix finds herself back at home years later, nothing is the same.
This was a unique style read for me. I don’t usually get into very many character driven novels. I found myself quickly absorbed in Bea’s world though and fell in love with her American family, as she did. I didn’t really feel this was the romance it was touted. It was more of a coming of age. It was about found family, and coming to love ones own family for who they are.
“She had tried, as best she could, to braid her life with theirs. She never thought then that their future would diverge. That there would be two lines leading in very difference directions.”
