4.5stars I loved the characters in this book. I haven't read a book from the perspective of a child from London joining a family in the United States during the war to stay safe. The lifelong memories and connections from growing up partially in the US and then Bea's return to London are explored. I like how we see all perspectives, Bea's parents in London and their emotions and how they dealt with it, knowing she was safe, but far!
Also The Gregory's perspectives of having Bea join their family in the United States. They treated her as their own daughter, and the love she built with her "siblings" was beautiful and heartbreaking when she returned to London at the end of the war!
The character development is strong and the story is beautiful and devastating at times. These characters stuck with me long after I finished the book and I felt connected to them. I will be looking for more books from this author in the future!
