Beyond That, the Sea

I want to thank Bookishfirst, Celadon Books & the author for the opportunity to read and review this novel. From beginning to end I experienced an emotional journey through the lives of two families brought together by war. Each character was so thought out, and each event was heartbreaking in its sorry and exciting in its joy.
Spanning from the middle of the war in England in 1940, to Maine, USA, 1977 we read this story from the perspective of each character. The author weaves in historical facts as well as period drama in a way that’s completely believable. You can imagine standing next to William as he looks out for enemy planes just before dawn, before having to rush off to school. You can feel the anguish that Milly had to have felt when she left her child to board a ship with a bunch of strangers. The anxiety of war, the stress of traveling across a vast ocean, the excitement of meeting new people; your emotions will be all over the place, but in the most enjoyable ways.
