Different perspective of WWII
Millie and Reginald Thompson make the impossible choice to send their only daughter Beatrix to America while WWII is going on. Sending her to a family they have only written a letter to. Meanwhile, the Gregory family is excited to welcome Beatrix into their family. With two boys, William and Gerald, they are all excited to have a girl in the family. Beatrix soon assimilates into the family - becoming the sister and daughter they’ve never had. Though her thoughts wonder to her parents back in Britain, she loves her new life in American. I loved seeing Beatrix grow up and enjoy her life in America, until she’s abruptly called back to England once the war was over. This was a unique WWII, one I hadn’t read before and I enjoyed seeing Beatrix navigate her old pre-war life while taking all the experiences she had in America. I would recommend this book for anyone who wants a different perspective of the impact of war on children, especially those who were sent away from home. Great coming of age story!
