I enjoyed the First Look at Beyond That, the Sea. I am a fan of historical fiction, and while I have read quite a bit of it set in the WWII era, I have not yet read any that is told from the perspective of a child/former child that was sent overseas to avoid the ravages of war. The short prologue gives us a look into the future of our protagonist, Beatrix, while also looking back in her memory and setting the stage for the story to come. The first chapters introduce Beatrix and both the family she leaves and the family she joins and set the stage for what I believe will be an interesting and poignant story. Based on the contents page, the story will be told in three parts that correspond to different time frames, so not only will we get the story of Beatrix's time in America, but also hopefully find out what happens to her after she returns home and how her experience shapes her life. I find the cover attractive and appropriate for the story's premise. I look forward to reading this book and exploring the characters' experiences during this uncertain and turbulent time in history.
