As a parent, I cannot imagine what it must have been like in war torn England in the 1940's and having to put your child on a boat to the US for safety. How hard, too, for the child, in this case 11 year old Beatrix. As parents you do what you have to do, but it is not often easy.
Beatrix lives with a family in Maine who become a second family to her and her family in England seems far away. Of course the day comes when she must return home.
We just start to see what it is like for her as an adult looking back to those times in the last pages of the first impression, but I would like to read more.
