I was afraid from the description that this book would be typical of what is often labeled book club fiction, but at least in this excerpt it promises to be more (but bookclubs are likely to enjoy this book). Beatrix is developing nicely and the writing is interesting and the descriptions evoke a strong sense of place. I love the cover.
