Historical fiction is not my go-to genre, but when I'm lucky enough to pick up a really good historical novel I usually know right away. I was hooked by Beyond That, the Sea in just a few pages. The Prologue is so deeply melancholy and moving that I found myself caring about Beatrix before I even knew her story. I also appreciated the time swing back to 1940-1945 in Part One (and the timeline at the bottom of the pages) as well as the chance to get to know all of the characters and their unique perspectives. I am looking forward to reading more!
