Beatrix is 11 years old and the last thing she wants to do is be separated from her parents and be shipped over to America. In reading this first part, I really enjoyed seeing the different perspectives: from Beatrix herself, along with her parents Millie and Reginald Thompson along with Nancy. This book takes a different look at WWII than we’ve previously seen - a British girl being sent to a family in the USA, a completely different culture and having to assimilate into somewhere she’s never been. I loved the opening chapter, Beatrix at 34, looks back fondly on the 5 years she spent in America. This sounds like a fantastic read.
