When I was young Happy Days was a bright spot in my life. If I was lucky I could catch it when it ran. When I was unlucky I didn’t. I remember when the Fonz was introduced to the show. Leather jacket. Tight pants. White T-shirt. Hair slicked back. I was mesmerized by this not so straight man. At seven years old I’d never seen a man like him. Too young to realize that he was an actor; this man was so dynamic and full of energy. People listened to him. And at seven I knew I wanted people to listen to me. I enjoyed the first look. It’s fascinating that the man behind the character was not the confidant one we saw at home. But what he lacked in confidence he made up for in charisma. It was actually nice to read about his life and family. Throw in the history of fellow actors and it makes you feel like you know him. He has such a pleasant aura about him it just makes you wish he was your neighbor next door.
