Henry Winkler, who played the beloved Arthur Fonzarelli (the Fonz) on Happy Days, shares stories from his childhood to the present in Being Henry. Unattainable parental expectations and their punishment due to a lifelong struggle with severe dyslexia led to resentment and pain that Winkler works tirelessly to overcome. With honesty and authenticity Winkler shares his joys and struggles. He is a real, genuine person with a love of family and friends. He is married to his wife for 47 years, and his love for her is heartwarming. He defied the odds. He overcame adversity. He became one of the most recognizable and popular television characters on the tv show Happy Days, and soared to greater heights than expected. Playing such an iconic role had its downside though, and for many years Winkler was prevented from continuing his acting career due to typecasting. He was forced to reinvent himself and pursued work, successfully so, within the business, but outside of acting. He is a producer, director, voiceover animation actor and a children’s book author. After the passing of time, Winkler returned to acting with renewed success. His life has been about perseverance and overcoming obstacles, and helping others along the way. I didn’t think it was possible to like him more, but after reading his book, I do.
