Being Henry marks the first memoir in which I met its author. I was at the stagedoor of a Broadway play that Winkler appeared in called "The Performers." After he came out of the stagedoor he then proceeded to greet everyone including myself with gratitude and warmth.

Winkler not only captures that same gratitude and warmth but his honesty, humor, and neuroticism. His difficult New York childhood of emotionaly distant and shallow parents was when he first felt the need to perform. Later, he went to the Yale school of Drama and finally discovered in a minor role on the hit 70's sitcom Rhoda.

Then there was his breakout role as "The Fonz" in the smash ABC sitcom Happy Days which became both a blessing and a curse after his the show ended in 1984. The best parts of the book are Winkler talks about his 48 year marriage to his wife, Stacey. He is surprisingly candid and open about how is own emotional distance began to take its toll later in their marriage. In a refreshingly additional perspective, Stacey her own take on what Winkler writes about their marriage.
