I was really eager to read this as I absolutely loved the title, was drawn to the cover because it’s so striking, and the synopsis was definitely intriguing. The first look that I read had me wanting more so I was delighted to read the rest of this book. Anything with strong female protagonists is definitely going to pique my interest!
I found that the characters in the book were quite well crafted and I thought it was very interesting for the author to tackle a gender-swapped retelling of The Outsiders, this time with a feminist bent.
What results is a thought-provoking and sometimes difficult-to-read story about found family, friendship, and teens challenging stereotypes. This is admittedly a book with lots of heavy topics but it approaches them in a masterful way and in doing so helps readers to connect with and relate to the characters.
