We’ve all read The Outsiders in middle school and were deeply impacted by the teen angst and idealism, making it still relevant literature today. The promise of a female version makes me think of topics like women’s rights, sexuality and violence, but set in a time before cell phones and IG. Besides gender, a difference between the books will be that The Outsiders was written about the current landscape and Bad Girls Never Say Die is historical fiction. I’m interested to see how Mathieu illuminates what has or hasn’t changed for young women in the last 50 years.
