Not since DEVIL IN THE WHITE CITY have I been so immediately drawn into a tale. The writing is compelling. The story is profane, exasperating, salacious, and unsurprisingly sordid. It sadly encapsulates all that is plaguing society. The cover doesn’t necessarily grab me. I think it’s because the title is too banal for the story beneath the title page.
It feels like this series of events is interchangeable with many of the headlines we see every morning. Powerful people. Who all seem to look alike. Doing whatever the hell they want. With impunity. Almost. Accountability is today’s watchword and one tip exploded a whole ecosystem of vice, evil, hubris, and plain old fashion jackassery. A good book to pick up when you want to get your blood boiling. Will move fast and keep you up well past your bedtime. So have a pot of coffee ready for your morning sprint to work.
