This is a well done piece of investigative journalism and deep dive into what that investigative journalism looks like on the inside. I think this is a must read for anyone who has gone through medical training and is already familiar with how institutions protect their own and hide their mistakes. You will learn about the skewed moral compass of not only a renowned physician, but of the LAPD and LA Times leaders who helped cover up the depths of the scandal. This is a fast paced dive into the world of Los Angeles where holding on to power is the goal for those who have it, and where challenging that power can come with a heavy cost. Reading Bad City is like being a fly on the wall watching how the sausage gets made at a powerhouse newspaper, and it is often shocking to learn what can happen before an article ever makes it to print. If you loved Bad Blood or She Said, this should be your next read.
