I was pretty engaged the first third of this book then I began to get mired down in the investigation. This is the story of a well known Dean at USC who was messing around with a young woman by keeping her supplied with drugs. He got caught with her in a hotel room where she happened to overdose. Pringle is a dogged reporter who was going to bulldoze through the red tape and BS at the university to get to the bottom of the story. This story ended up being part of a larger story that the university covered up about Dr George Tyndall’s widespread sexual abuse at USC. There are a lot of characters in this book and I got confused sometimes about who was who. I was looking forward to this book but it ended up being a DNF for me. I do like the cover, which does give off a Los Angeles Noir vibe and Pringle has won the Pulitzer Prize in 2004 and 2011, which is impressive.
