Longform journalism is one of my absolute favorite genres, so I'm really looking forward to reading BAD CITY by Paul Pringle.

The story begins with Pringle, a reporter, receiving a tip that there was a drug overdose at a fancy Pasadena hotel involving the head of the USC medical school. Pringle writes in detail, describing the reservations supervisor at the hotel receiving a call from the manager on duty, and heading to the room to see what's going on. Already in the first chapter, my eyebrows were raised -- this is one of those stories that would seem farfetched in fiction.

The cover's great. I like the choice to show the words BAD CITY in a big, yellow orange, all caps font, followed by a subtitle, "Peril and power in the city of angels." I also like the hazy LA backdrop shown.
