I first saw this book over on the website Bookishfirst.com. On the site, they allow you to read samples of books and then give a first impression mini review on the few chapters that you read. I was immediately drawn to the cover. The red, the tree, the ax, and the blood had me wondering what kind of story this was going to be. Was it horror or a thriller? I wasn't sure. Then I dove into the sample. I can't remember exactly how many chapters we were given, but it was enough to hook me into the story. The prologue opens up to a scene that is scary and horrific. That scene right there is the reason I knew I had to read this book. After you write your first impression on the website, you are automatically entered into a raffle to win a physical copy of the book. I was hoping I would get this one. Unfortunately, I did not win. I knew I just had to get my hands on this book somehow, so I headed over to NetGalley and lo and behold, there it was, available to request! I was approved almost immediately!

Okay, enough rambling. Back to the review. As I said, the prologue had me hooked. I am always a sucker for survival books, and this is exactly what this book was. It was a story of 4 friends who get stuck in Yosemite National Forest because of a wicked snowstorm. Totally unprepared for this turn of events, they do their best to hunker down and try to wait out the storm. Then, this is where the prologue comes into play. There was an accident and one of the friends was badly hurt. All trust has flown out the window now. They aren't sure if it was actually an accident or intentional.

If you can't tell, I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a quick read and I had a hard time putting this one down. I sped through this book! Up until the very end I had no idea what to think or what the outcome was going to be. I was definitely surprised at the ending. It was totally unpredictable. If you are someone who enjoys YA survival books, I recommend picking this one up! I am rating this book 4 out of 5 stars!

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and Stephen Wallenfels for this advanced copy in return for an honest review.
