The first thing that drew me to this book was the cover, a tree casting a red shadow, with a bloody ax sticking out of the snow. I wanted it! Then the first chapter really sets up the story, three guys set out on a hike, joined unexpectedly by a girl. No one knows where they are and the weather has turned. Something else is turning too, allegiances, friendships, everything is going to hell. Then there is the bear...
The book is full of choices and I as a reader loved being able to shout "NOOOO" every time one of the characters made a 'bad call.' The story also kept switching from the past to the present, which built a lot of suspense as I tried to figure out the reason everyone ended up taking this doomed trip and who would end up surviving it. Loved it!
