I really wanted to read this book because, as an English teacher, I thought it would be great for my junior high readers. As an adult reading this book, I wasn't convinced about the characters and their authenticity. Ceo, especially, felt unreal and much too imagined. I wasn't sure the others would go along with him as much and easily as the book depicts. I did like the events of the book, however, especially when the action picked up on the mountain.
I do think, though, that this would be a great book for many of my students. I don't think the characters would seem inauthentic to most of them and they would easily identify with the two protagonists. I believe that if they can push through the exposition they will like the action quite a bit! The content was completely appropriate for teenaged readers as well. There were a couple allusions to sex, but nothing stated outright and nothing that would shock kids.
