First and foremost, I was drawn to this book because of the cover. I mean, come on, there is an ax stabbed into the ground and, let's be honest, the ground almost looks like BLOOD! The red background only serves to add to this impression and, so, I was immediately intrigued.

After reading the prologue and first three chapters, I tip my hat to the author for immediately creating a suspenseful and intriguing read. The prologue clearly takes place after everything has started going wrong but leaves the reader with SO many questions that you literally have no choice but to read on.

I like Colin, the protagonist. He seems like an honest kid who doesn't want to start trouble but that does make me wonder EXACTLY why he agrees to go on this trip, even after another character backs out.

And, finally, Ceo (I keep wanting to refer to him as C.E.O., which makes me not like his name actually) is a cryptic character who is evasive and mysterious. After three chapters, I already don't trust the kid and it sets up the suspense that I referred to before.

Although I am not into books about camping or nature or hiking (not my cup of tea, sorry) I would DEFINITELY give this book a chance. Plus, it's described as a "psychological thriller?!" Okay! Sign me up!

Thank you for this chance to read the first few chapters of this book.
