The Cover

I love the forest from the trees feel to the cover, literally. The ax with the bloodied snow is essential to the plot, me thinks. At least it's mentioned in the story... (Strange-awful flashback to reading a P-to-3 preview of The Girl [and a Horse] ... or whatever the name is ... this here is real blood on snow, though. So figurative blood-as-imagery is bad; literal blood-as-imagery is good, at least for me.)

Description

I wouldn't think it was psychological thriller had it not say so. So, I would say that this story is penned well, just going by that little tid-bit alone.

The Prologue

Ice and Blackened Blood. Enough to give me the willies and keep on reading...

Chapter One

I'm slowly getting the hang of reading these, now. (This is a great second chance at a first impression of BookishFirst.Com!) And Wallenfels' chosen voice for this story is epically addicting, I don't care if it's on purpose or not. I love it. His Main Character's (Colin. I'm actually unsure if there IS a MC now.) personality is cool, calm and collected ... but it's working for me here!

Chapter Two

Colin as a MC is awesome. But since the chapters so far keep saying "Colin," It makes me think that there will be alternate P.O.V.s in the story. I am not sure that I will like that. (It's few and far between when I like a head-hopper story.)

Chapter Three

There's that ax again... non-cryptically and non-evasively asked by Ceo, who Colin coins as cryptic and evasive ... Making this Now seemingly very important reveal in the story (after several show-ups, including the cover!) seem like it happened with the wrong character ... Or maybe since Colin is so keen as to not rock anyone's boat so far, Ceo is the only one left to ask Grahame about it. (Weird for me to write and see Grahame with an e at the end.)

And the end of the preview is there, right with the ultra cryptic and evasive answer from Grahame.

Take Away

I need to read this book to find out what the rest of the story is. It's now in my blood. I will have to read it through.
