Bam! The prologue of this one hits you like a ton of bricks, piling on one problem on top of another: snow, lost, and worst of all, what we have to suspect of blood. With this shocking opening scene, it's a bit off putting then being dropped down into the midst of a "bro" debate about pro basketball. I get what is being done here, but I wish that either A.) the prologue had been a bit longer, made to feel like a chapter of its own so that when we switched over, it wouldn't feel so sudden or B.) maybe opened not straight on dialogue. Either way, the prologue itself is enough to get readers on board if they're looking for an exciting thriller!
