First of all, the prologue for this book was amazing and I was hooked before it ended. Second, the characters in this book feel pretty authentic and I love that. As a junior high teacher, I really appreciate when the author makes the kids seem real. This book will be popular in teenage kids, especially boys, because it has that Hatchet vibe that they have been missing since they read Paulson is elementary school. I really want to read the rest of this book because I think it would be great to supplement a survival unit in school and I can already think of a dozen students who would really enjoy it.
As for the cover, I think it is the perfect blend of haunting and intriguing that will help students want to pick this book up!
