As a high school librarian, I'm always looking for books with male protagonists to help reel in reluctant readers. Bad Call just may be the bait. From the start, the writing is quick-witted and includes pop culture references that teen boys just might actually appreciate. Who wouldn't want to debate LeBron versus Jordan? Plus, the ominous setting the prologue mixed with a few introductory chapters that conveniently provide needed background information while also moving the plot along are perfect for reluctant readers who need a "hook" to keep them interested.
