Solid mystery and interesting characters
This mystery is set in Sicily. Poldi has retired and moved from Munich to Sicily, the home of her deceased husband. She is fragile due to this death and an unexplained tragedy in Africa. She has come to Sicily to drink herself to death. Her three sisters-in-law and their spouses take her under their wings. A nephew flies in from Germany on a regular basis to stay with her and keep an eye on her. After a young handyman she has hired disappears, Poldi goes looking for him and discovers he has been murdered.
There is a lot of character building in this novel, as it is the first in a series. The author does a good job of introducing the characters who will be around in upcoming books. For example, each sister-in-law has a distinctive personality. They aren't just lumped together. The nephew is the narrator of the story.
This book help my interest, and I look forward to reading the next in the series. Poldi has again taken hold of life, and I can't wait to see where she will go next.
