When Auntie Poldi is first introduced she seems like she has a big personality that will be entertaining, but this isn't sustained well through the book. Her big personality pops up sometimes, but at other times she seems as bland as anyone else. The story moves a little too slow and there's no intensity to the mystery.

The character of Auntie Poldi and the setting of Sicily should have made for an interesting and entertaining story, but the story just didn't hold up. There's probably potential in this series and perhaps the characters and setting get better developed in subsequent books, but this first one doesn't really make me want to read more. Maybe something has been lost in the translation to English.
