I was intrigued by the cover and the short synopsis in BookishFirst. My initial reaction was: The book cover projects a sense of tranquility until you notice the rifle. This book sounds like Poldi is a hoot. We need to get to know her, follow the clues and probably laugh along the way. Looking forward to Torre Archirafi Sicily, Auntie Poldi, and her nephew as they solve the murder of the handyman.

I won a copy from BookishFirst, I couldn’t wait to start the book. Unfortunately, I could not stick with it. The book itself seemed to meander and really wandered from the cozy it was projected to be. I’m not sure if it was the writing or the translation. I quickly became disenchanted with Auntie Poldi, her drinking and her wig.

The story is told through her nephew whom she has visiting her often from Germany while she restores and sets up residence in an old home in Sicily.

I will pass this on to a friend who I hope can enjoy it more than I did.

Thank you to Bookishfirst- NetGalley and publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for a copy of this novel.
