When I read a book I like to be transported to the scene, Auntie Poldi and the Sicilian Lions transports the reader to the Italian coast not just through vivid and compelling descriptions of the place but also through the rich dialogue between the characters. Italy and the coast are major reasons why I enjoyed this book. The murder mystery as well as the relationships that develop through the course of the book are also compelling. Loss is a difficult subject to address in a book that is very much a comedy but the author is able to accomplish so much with Aunti Poldi that the reader is able to relate to the pain without it being overly depressing. The relationship between Poldi and her police officer love interest is fun and keeps the book from becoming boring and sad. I really recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a good story with great characters that can be both sad and uplifting.
