really liked it

Auntie Poldi is like Auntie Mame on steriods. At age 60, she moves to Sicily from Munich to throw pebbles into the sea in memory of her deceased husband and, hopefully, drink herself to death--gazing at the Mediterranean with Mt. Etna behind her. Alas, however, the best laid plans.... Instead, when Poldi's errand boy goes missing, she has a bad feeling, sobers herself up, and goes looking for him. And when she finds him dead, she immediately knows who did it--or thinks she does. Auntie Poldi may be old and plump, but that doesn't stop her from taking on the boy's employer, whom, she is certain, is a Mafia don. She is not above swearing a blue streak, planting herself where she isn't wanted, or exposing her ample cleavage to get what she wants. In short, this hilarious novel will brighten your day, as it has brightened several of mine, those of her nephew (the narrator), her three sisters in law, and others in her path. Stand back! Poldi is a tour de force and an amateur sleuth to be reckoned with!

Thank you to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for an advance copy of this wonderful novel.
