Interesting Premise, Underwhelming Delivery
The synopsis of this book sounded interesting enough: Auntie Poldi retires to Sicily and inadvertently becomes an amateur sleuth. However, the first few pages did not deliver. The narrator seems to be the nephew of Auntie Poldi, and I don't think this voice does the subject justice. Auntie Poldi seems like an interesting character, but the narration is haphazard, clunky, and almost clinical. I also don't like when books have blurbs in the beginning of each chapter that gives away the plot of said chapter, and I can't ignore it because it's there so I must read it.
However, even though I didn't like the First Look primarily because of the writing style, this does look like it would be a fun and entertaining read - ultimately, it's just not my style.
