This story reminded me of a book I read when I was younger. I love that you can't just make a wish and everything turns out perfectly. Your wishes have to be precise enough that it doesn't twist your words or intent.
The main character, Eldon, has faced tragedy and his wish is coming up. The rules of wishing mean he can't fix what needs to be fixed and he's unsure what he wants to do. He is very flawed but he demonstrates growth throughout the book. He slowly makes his way around his small town to ask about other peoples wishes and whether it turned out the way they wanted or if they are happy with what they got. Most of the people he interviews aren't very happy with their wishes. It makes it even more difficult to decide what to ask for his.
I'm pleased with the author's writing style and loved each of the characters.
