Would you want to live in a town where on your 18th birthday you got to make a wish that you know would come true? That's the case for residents of Madison, including Eldon, who just can't seem to come up with the perfect wish with his birthday fast approaching. I thought the chapter titles to indicate how much time was left before Eldon's wish were helpful, and I really enjoyed the chapters that recollect on the town's former wishes. This book isn't perfect, it has its ups and downs, and readers seem to be pretty split between enjoying the book overall and falling in love with the premise but believing it fell short of expectations. As for me, while I didn't care for some character choices, and found Eldon too self centered at times, I thought the book had some interesting discussions about grief, choice, and accepting the consequences for your actions. It was vastly different than anything I've picked up in a while, and I enjoyed my time reading it.
