The narrative voice grabs the reader's attention from the first sentence. You know you're in the hands of a skillful writer, one who knows how to write something you won't want to put down.

The narrator is a convincing teenage boy, with a down to earth grasp of the reality around him. The descriptions of the town, its surroundings, and most importantly, its residents draw the reader into the story seamlessly.

I believe this is a book that would be difficult to put down once you begin. You want to know what will happen to the protagonist, and what has happened to the townspeople who have come before. What did they wish for? What went wrong? How could so many people have come up with misguided wishes?
