About halfway through I thought, wow, this is actually better than I thought. Then almost immediately after that, it seemed to drop off--Eldon isn't a character you want to root for, but I don't hate that. I think it's important to remember that this book only takes place in the span of a month, so any actual character growth would be unrealistic! And it's hard to write an intentionally unlikable character, so props to Sedoti for trying it.

The ending is what I expected, for the most part. Actually, I got some vibes of The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness, where it's a world of fantastical things happening and everyone knows they happen and sort of expects it. To me, this book is a great discussion book, because it begs kids to start asking what would they wish for and what are the consequences of those wishes? This is a thoughtful book.
