This was so much better than I expected. I love it when a book takes me by surprise like this. Every now and then I read a book expecting to not really like it much after reading reviews from readers that didn't enjoy the book. Sometimes I don't enjoy the book either and other times I find myself really enjoying the book. As You Wish was definitely a case of the latter. I think with this book it boils down to this- if you have to have a perfect main character you may not enjoy this book. If you enjoy reading about flawed characters and seeing great character growth- you're more likely to enjoy this one. I will admit the main character, Eldon, seemed to have a chip on his shoulder at first but once I understood why and started to understand him better I liked him. His attitude actually didn't bother me much. And I loved seeing his characters growth. I found myself really invested in the story because of the characters. I absolutely adored his best friend, Merrill and Norie was another great character. I loved all of the deeper themesbehind this story as well. This is definitely a deep book that really gets you thinking but iy loved that the author did that in such an entertaining and engaging way. This was Magical Realism at it's finest! And I loved the setting. Everything was just great. I definitely recommend this one if you love YA and Magical Realism.
