This has that heavy moral you normally face in the old tales where you learn the hard way of "be careful of what you wish for". Except that it's set in present day and the narrator is super relatable sarcastic high school boy.

Eldon, the narrator, as yet to make his wish. As the story progresses that tension leading up to his birthday and aka wish day builds. Because WHAT will he wish for? What if he wishes for all wishes to end?

There's quirkiness in the humor as well as mysteries that makes you want to keep reading. What did others wish for? Why is the town the way it is? What were some of the wrong or the good that comes from the wishes? And the list goes on. There are some elements that I believe are pretty guessable, such as why his sister is gone? But I'd like to keep reading to find out.

The writing is also easy to follow and read. How the commentary is handled reminds me of other snarky books such as Catcher In The Rye and Me and Earl and the Dying girl. Just in tone of voice of course, not plot.
