At first, I thought the first person writing seemed strange, given the premise of the story. But this choice made sense to me more as I continued reading. I have never quite seen any story like it. I loved discovering more about the town of Madison's unique wish granting ability and Eldon's reluctance to pick his one wish and deal with the consequences.

As the various lives unfold, revealing how other people's wishes went, and revealing the events that put Eldon in his current state of mind, the story completely sucked me in.

This book put me through the range of emotions, making me empathise with the problems of the characters.

The reason I didn't give a full five stars is that there was on small part that just seemed off. Out of all of the town, only one of them is religious and many of her lines a about her religion didn't really seem to add anything to the story. Though it was tactful and didn't come off as preachy or anything, I felt like the story would run smoother without that element.
