In a town where everyone gets to have their wish granted, you need to be careful what you wish for. Eldon is days away from getting his wish and he's being pressured on how to use it. His mom wants Eldon to wish for money. We don't know what exactly Eldon's mom wished for but you can tell that she regrets her choice. It seems that the wish is allotted on a person's 18th birthday, so it's not surprising that the wishers might make some immature choices. We do know that Eldon's dad wished to be the best football player in school, he doesn't seem to regret it much but it clearly hasn't benefited him in the long run. it also seems that a wish can cause bad results. Clearly Eldon is concerned about what his wish will cause to happen.
