"As You Wish" is a book that will get under your skin, but in the best possible way. I wasn't sure what to expect when I first picked up this book, but from the first chapter I was completely sucked in and did not want to put the book down.
It follows Eldon, a senior in high school, who lives in the small town of Madison. It is out in the desert, and at first glance seems like a tiny, ordinary, town. Madison is hiding a secret that would show the world it is anything but ordinary. When a town resident reaches their 18th birthday, they get to make one wish. The problem is, Eldon doesn't know what he would want to wish for. He starts learning from other residents who have already made their wish how it impacted them and what came after the wish moment.
I don't want to spoil the stories, or the impacts it made on me, but I know that it was touching to read how a wish can be something that doesn't make your life better in the long run, even if it is something you want so badly at the time. Eldon's journey was touching and memorable and I found myself drawn to the people he interacts with.
I would also like to note that I loved that Eldon himself was not perfect. His character is deeply flawed, but that makes him a believable narrator. All in all, this is an excellent book and one I will be very excited to talk about.
