A Young Adult Book Rated "X"
Thanks to Bookishfirst for the ARC paper back copy of "As You Wish" by Chelsea Sedoti. I would classify this book as a "YA" book, but I wouldn't recommend it to a young adult reader because of the profanity and sexual content. If these two aspects were toned down or even left out, then I think it would be an interesting book for this age group.
In a small town where the big secret was kept quite and only shared with the residents was a ritual going back to several generations. Each resident received one wish when he/she turned eighteen years old. The wish was controlled and led by the town's mayor. When a wish was made, the results or consequences weren't always taken into account. Some wishes turned out really good while others, well, I'm not going into detail because I don't want to spoil the book for other readers. The ending took a turn that I didn't expect, but in life, these things happen.
