The main character was hard to spend time with
The idea of a town in which everyone gets a wish when they reach a certain age is certainly an entertaining one. There have long been stories in which people are given a shot at their hearts desire. Human nature dictates that this never ends well and that certainly holds true in As You Wish.
The main character makes sure to remind us of this at every turn and while I understand why, it makes him a very difficult person to spend time with. As it's told from his perspective, that kind of intensity wears on you.
