The set up of this story is really interesting. The idea of having to make one wish, and knowing that it would come true (without guaranteeing a happily ever after) is pretty clever. The lead character seems pretty morose, and the setting is decidedly bleak. This seems like a story where the layers are going to be revealed slowly- a lot of back story has been briefly mentioned, but there seems to be a lot to learn about Madison, Eldon, and his family.
