AS BRIGHT AS HEAVEN tells the story of the Bright family and friends as they live through speakeasies, the great war and Spanish flu. We are shown how different people deal with death in their lives. It tells how war changes lives and is not the glamorous affair video games, movies purport it to be these days. It makes us think of death on different levels, as it tells us there is hope no matter how much we've lost in our lives.
The characters are memorable, likeable and believable. I lost track of time while reading this story and wanted more when the story finally ended. The story, the scenes seem to take the reader away to another time and place as he sees the times through each characters thoughts and feelings.
