This book was the perfect read for a rainy day, as it brightened my day & warmed my heart. A story of a family set in the early 1900’s right before and during the outbreak of the Spanish Flu epidemic. As a long time resident of Philadelphia, where the story unfolds, I was not aware of this devastating event and Meissner tells the tale with such grace and beauty.
The Bright Family having suffered a great loss moves from Quakertown to Philadelphia to run an elderly uncle’s mortuary and try to begin a new life. Just as the family settles into their new life, tragedy hits the city and soon the Bright Family is dealing with a new set of challenges. Told in alternating points of view, each chapter and character is well drawn and developed. I was completely caught up in this family saga and lived every joy and sorrow with them.
I highly recommend this touching story.
