I was fortunate to receive a pre-publication copy of As Bright as Heaven and am so glad I did, as I immensely enjoyed it! I’ve read several of Susan Meissner’s novels and this is definitely one of my favorites. Having said that, the book started out a bit slow for me. I’m generally not a fan of books written from the viewpoint of multiple characters and maybe that was part of the problem. The story is told from the viewpoints of the mother and the three daughters of the Bright family. For this story it ended up working quite well because each of the four was dealing with their own individual problems as well as dealing with the entire family’s current situation. I found myself really being drawn into the story and was easily caught up in the characters’ struggles as well as in their victories. The novel centers around several difficult issues, some of which resolve easily and some that don’t. The takeaway for me was that problems may not resolve in the way we want them to but things still work out for the best. At times heartbreaking and at times so positive and encouraging, this novel has it all!
